Things I have done to avoid editing my own work
a non-comprehensive list
registered for tax
cleaned my entire home. even the bathroom
pulled hair and lint out of the vacuum
cooked an elaborate risotto. it turned out poorly becuase my stock was too salty, but i ate it stubbornly
cleaned all the glass and the mirrors. this is an extra big feat because i am short and impatient and cleaning glass is often aided by long arms and patience
took out the bins. that’s not even my job in the household duties split but i did it anyway and then i was grumpy about it
read three million buzzfeed articles. remember when they did actual journalism instead of AI generated listicles?
did laundry
wondered if i believe in ghosts. too cowardly to make a decision either way
did laundry again
hunted for mismatched socks which was surprisingly gratifying
tried on some old clothes. then some new clothes. then tried to come up with fifty different ways to pair them all together. then got too hot and lay on the floor
joined a gym
watered the plants
emails emails emails
napped
gotten really into the nintendo switch
online shopped
did the dishes. bonus: fished out the soggy, slimy food chunklets from the sink and threw them away
rearranged my books by colour, and then by genre, and then alphabetically, and then by ‘read’ and ‘not read’
shaved every inch of my body
went for a walk
on said walk, spent a really, really long time looking at notebooks.
bought notebook for a totally different writing project
wrote my name in it. googled different handwriting styles and tried to emulate some of my favourites
started planning out other, not-yet-existing writing projects. went out for more notebooks
drank up to five coffees
napped because of the coffee jitters
discovered a pile of old, blank-paged notebooks under my bed from the last time i had to do a round of edits
made pointless lists of things
A quick favour. I love writing these posts, and I intend to do them for free for as long as I can. If you enjoyed reading this, forward it to a friend (or three) who you think might like it too. It helps massively, because validation from strangers is truly the only thing that makes the horrors bearable for me.

Lmao I have a pile of notebooks & a Pinterest board of handwriting 😂
